Abstract

Fumria spp., currently known as fumitory, are herbaceous plants from the family Papaveraceae which widely respected in TPM for their effects on liver and dermatological disorders. The aerial parts of the plant are used for cleansing the body from pathologic yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm humors. It is moderate in hotness and dry in the second degree and mainly contains isoquinoline alkaloids and organic acids. There are some RCTs confirming the role of different Fumaria species in eczema, pruritus, and urticaria, as well as biliary disorders and infantile colic. Also, preclinical studies showed hepatoprotective, gastrointestinal, and diuretic activities. The plant is usually used as oral powder or decoction. © 2024 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
