Abstract

As digital technology continues the innovation over the last decades, the accuracy of CAI, of both dynamic and mostly static system, has been a topic of a large number of studies all over the world. It is indisputable that the accuracy and precision of the guide template is already proven; however, it must be noted that there are still some outcome variables that should always be taken into consideration. The clinician must both identify and understand the limitations within each step of the digital sequence in order to know the underlying reasons why positional errors occur for implants placed using a guided surgical technique. Minimally invasive implantology is considered as one of the many benefits of guided surgery; however, it is not equally defined as flapless guided implantology. The decision whether to use flap or flapless technique should be based always on the critical evaluation of each patient’s treatment need and modality. Shifting to CAI from convention implantology has a learning curve required in both expert surgeon and novice clinician. It is definitely imperative for clinician to have the knowledge of basic principles in implantology before implementing guided surgery. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
