Abstract

Background and aims: Ergonomics seeks to create a safe, comfortable, efficient and healthy work environment through the design of work space, systems, equipment and work processes that are suitable for working people. The science of ergonomics increases employees’ productivity and organizational performance by improving the work environment and system and human health. This research was conducted with the aim of developing the 2021 - 2025 strategic plan for the ergonomics educational program. Methods: This study was conducted using a participatory action research in 2021.The strategic planning committee was formed including 19 professors, experts and doctoral students in ergonomics and occupational health engineering disciplines. This committee identified the internal and external factors affecting the performance of the ergonomics educational program and determined its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Then, the strategic direction of the ergonomics educational program, including the mission, vision and values, was determined. Also, the goals and objectives of the ergonomics educational program were determined. Then, strategies and measures to achieve objectives were determined. Finally, the 2021 operational plan of the ergonomics educational program was developed. Results: The scores of internal and external environment dimensions of the country's ergonomics training departments were 56% and 61%, respectively. Therefore, the strategic position of the ergonomics educational program was conservative. Three goals were written for the ergonomics educational program, which were Development of educational services in ergonomics, Development of research services in ergonomics and Development of consultancy services in ergonomics. Strategies of organizational architecture, quality management, market penetration and cost management were chosen to achieve these goals. Thirty- five objectives were determined, and finally, an action plan containing 124 actions was written to achieve these objectives in 2021. Conclusion: The 2021 - 2025 strategic plan for the ergonomics educational program was written using a collaborative and systemic approach. The proper implementation of this strategic plan can lead to the development of educational, research and consulting services in the ergonomics area in Iran, which will play a significant role in improving the productivity of organizations and industries. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
