Abstract

The formation of several polycyclic compounds via the intramolecular–Diels–Alder reaction is reviewed. Furthermore, a thorough explanation has been given about the intramolecular–Diels–Alder reaction mechanism and the recent reactions carried out in this realm with O-propargyl salicylaldehydes as the starting material. Additionally, the strategies for the synthesis of chromene-fused heterocycles have been introduced and compared. The primary aim of this review is to provide up-to-date information about the application of the intramolecular–Diels–Alder reaction in the synthesis of a wide range of chromene-fused heterocycles in the recent chemical literature. © 2021
