Abstract

After polybrominated diphenyl ether, Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is the most commonly used brominated flame retardant. HBCD can cause cancer by causing inappropriate antidiuretic hormone syndrome. Environmental contamination with HBCD has been detected worldwide at concentrations ranging from nanograms to milligrams. Methods to degrade HBCD include physicochemical methods, bioremediation, and phytoremediation. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
