Abstract

Pathologic myopia is among the most frequent causes of blindness and vision loss in the world, with a prevalence of 0.9-3.1%. Both environmental and genetic factors have been shown to play a role in pathogenesis of this disease. Increased axial length in these patients causes a broad spectrum of structural changes in different parts of the globe like optic disc, retina, vitreous and choroid that can affect vision. Recent developments in optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) allowed better visualization of these changes with more details. OCT seems to be the preferred method for diagnosis and even follow up of most complications of pathologic myopia. In this chapter, we tried to show the most common and important complications of pathologic myopia OCT and OCTA features. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
