Abstract

Background and purpose: This study was conducted to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practice of faculty members, students, and staff in Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences about health issues in Quran and Islam. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted in 515 faculty members, students and staff of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in 2015-2016. Data was collected by a researcher-made questionnaire. One sample t-test and Kruskal Wallis test were used for data analysis. Results: Percentage of the mean scores for knowledge and practice in all three groups were more than 50% indicating significant difference with the test value (P< 0.001). Percentage of mean±SD total scores for knowledge, attitude and practice of the faculty members, students, and staff were 71.25±16, 69.75±32.6, 67.5±30, respectively showing no significant differences between the three groups (P= 0.185(. Conclusion: Knowledge and practice of our subjects about health issues in Quran and Islam was desirable. Nevertheless, due to the importance of this issue, university authorities are suggested to run cultural events about explicit commands of Quran to promote healthy lifestyle in the society. © 2017, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences.
