Abstract

According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some risk factors for severe COVID-19 outcomes are older age, male gender, and the presence of underlying conditions, such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Physical activity is one of the leading predictors of better health and has a protective effect against respiratory infection and severity of infection. However, there are no data about the effect of regular physical activity (PA) on COVID-19 consequences. According to the studies, regular moderate-intensity physical activity may be effective in achieving and increasing anti-inflammatory responses, which could help to revert lymphocytopenia in patients with COVID-19. It seems that regular physical activity may be related to a lower likelihood of adverse and severe COVID-19 consequences including hospitalization, ICU admission, and mortality. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.
