Abstract

Hip pain and symptoms related to hip abnormalities are extremely common in adults. Approximately 14.3% of adults aged 60 years or older reported substantial hip pain on most days of the previous 6 weeks. 1 Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and one of the leading causes of chronic disability in the elderly. 2 The incidence rate of symptomatic, radiographic hip osteoarthritis is 88 per 1,000,000 person-years (95% CI, 75 to 101). 3 The prevalence of hip osteoarthritis has been reported to be 3% for women and 3.2% for men aged 55 to 74 years according to the National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES-I) 3 and 15.1% for women and 14.1% for men over 55 years according to the Rotterdam study. 4 Approximately 2.5% of all sports-related injuries relate to the hip. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
