Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and has the highest incidence rate among Iranian women. It can affect all mental health aspects and subsequently affect a person’s sexual performance. The present study was conducted to determine the relationship between sexual function with health anxiety and fear of recurrence in women with a history of breast cancer. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted (2021) on 150 women aged 24-76 referring to the Breast Cancer Institute of Jihad University in Tehran. Three questionnaires in the form of online survey, including the Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI-18), Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-6), and Fear of Cancer Recurrence (FCR) were used to collect data in this study. The questionnaires were designed online, and the survey link was shared using WhatsApp groups. The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient, and One-Way ANOVA using SPSS 21. Results: There was a significant inverse correlation between sexual performance and health anxiety and sexual performance and fear of recurrence. In addition, the relationship between fear of relapse and health anxiety was significant. Moreover, there was a significant association between the level of education with the total scores and all sexual function subscales except for satisfaction and orgasm. A highly significant inverse association between sexual performance and age was also found in the research study. Conclusion: According to the study results, it is necessary to pay attention to the mental state and sexual function of women with breast cancer. Copyright © 2023 Serkani et al.
