Abstract

Children’s experiences of food insecurity (FI) are different from adults. There was no study in Iran regarding this issue. This content analysis study explored and conceptualized experiences of FI in 45 children aged 10–12 years in Tehran. They were interviewed and records were analyzed using MAXQDA 2018. Children’s FI concept emerged in three dimensions including cognitive, emotional, and physical. They responded to FI by reducing the quality and quantity of food and other religious, behavioral, and emotional cognitive coping strategies. Children can report their experiences. These results help to develop a child-level questionnaire. © The Author(s) 2025.
