Abstract

Background: ICU nosocomial infection is a major safety concern for both health care providers and the patients and noteworthy that increased morbidity, mortality and hospitalization costs. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of healthcare workers about the process of prevention and control of nosocomial infectionsin intensive care units of hospitals. Patients and methods: This qualitative study was conducted through purposeful sampling strategy withparticipating 21 health care workers. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews (34-145 minute), and was continued until achieving data saturation and themes' emergence. Content analysis method was used for data analysis. Results: Thematic analysis led to the identification five main categories The effectiveness of the infection control training process in the intensive care units, Systematic infection control processes, General management of hospitals, Management of resources and Organizational leadership. Conclusion: Qualitative content analysis showed that with enforcement of facilitating factors, it can be improved the quality of medical care and reduced the incidence of infections.
