Abstract

Sleep-wake cycles revolve around the regulation of chemo-electrical signaling, especially in thalamocortical regions. The present chapter provides an overview of the transition from wakefulness to sleep and vice versa. Thereby, readers can find periods where the function of the brain allows the mind to draw true dreams of the real world. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.
