Abstract

Nanomagnetic CuFe2O4 was used as an efficient, stable, and reusable catalyst for selective oxidation of alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds using oxone (potassium hydrogen monopersulfate) as oxidant in the presence of water as solvent at room temperature. Primary and secondary alcohols gave the corresponding products in good yields. The oxidation of various primary and secondary alcohols was also examined and the corresponding products were obtained with good yields. The catalyst was investigated with XRD, SEM, ICP and IR techniques. Furthermore, the catalyst could be easily recovered and reused several times without loss of activity. © 2015 Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
