Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has demonstrated diverse utilization across numerous fields in pharmacy and biomedicine, contributing to the advancements in disease diagnosis and treatment. AI has revolutionized the biomedical fields by enabling researchers to enhance the effectiveness of drug delivery systems (DDSs). This chapter highlights the prominent role of AI in designing optimal DDSs. First, the chapter delves into a general description of DDSs and AI tools. Then, this chapter investigates AI-driven design approaches. AI algorithms assist in generating innovative designs, streamlining the development process, and reducing experimental costs. Next, this chapter delves into AI’s potential in predicting DDS characteristics. Moreover, this chapter explores the role of AI in diagnosis and treatment using DDSs. In summary, this chapter highlights the multifaceted applications of AI in the development of DDSs. From design to prediction of characteristics and personalized diagnosis and treatment, AI continues to reshape the landscape of pharmaceutical research and patient care. © 2026 Elsevier Ltd.
