Effectiveness of Neuroage Capsules on Mini-Mental State Examination and Activities of Daily Living in Patients With Alzheimer's Disease: A Randomized Clinical Trial Publisher

Abstract

Background: Alzheimer's is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases. Since no definitive treatment has been found for Alzheimer's disease, the search for new treatments is still ongoing. Objectives: In this study, the effectiveness of NeuroAge capsules on mini-mental state examination (MMSE) and activities of daily living (ADL) in these patients was measured. Materials and Methods: This study was a double-blind clinical trial that was conducted in 1401. The studied sample included 86 Alzheimer's patients treated with donepezil who had visited the clinic of Al-Zahra Hospital and were included in the study by census. Patients were randomly divided into case and control groups. Neuroage capsules were added to the previous drug in the case group and placebo in the control group. All patients responded to MMSE and ADL before and after 12 weeks. Results: The results showed that the effect of time on MMSE and ADL was significant (P < 0.05), but the effect of consumption of NeuroAge capsules on MMSE and ADL was not significant (P < 0.05). The average MMSE and ADL had significantly decreased over time, but this decrease did not show a significant difference in the two groups (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Adding Neuroage capsules to the treatment regimen of Alzheimer's patients treated with donepezil does not affect MMSE and ADL. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
