Abstract

Background and objective: Similar to other types of surgery, septorhinoplasty has some complications. In most cases, patients undergoing septorhinoplasty may have ecchymosis and edema. Using tampon is one of the most effective ways to reduce ecchymosis and edema after septorhinoplasty. The present study aimed to compare ecchymosis and edema in septorhinoplasty patients with 2- and 24-hours tampon Material and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 100 patients were divided into two groups of 2-hour and 24-hour tampons. On the 1st, 3rd, and 7th postoperative days, degree of edema and ecchymosis was calculated and recorded on a 4-point scale. Data were also analysed using SPSS 21 software. Results: In terms of edema, there was no significant difference between the two groups; however, in the examination of periorbital ecchymosis on the 1st day, there was a significant difference between the two groups (P = 0.044): the edema observed in the 2-hour tampon group was greater than the 24-hour tampon group. Conclusion: Compared to 24-hour tampon, 2-hour tampon had a lower ecchymosis on the 1st day; however, a comprehensive study with a more statistical group is recommended. © 2020 by Advance Scientific Research.
