Abstract

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is a serious threat to human health. Studies have shown that LncRNAs are associated with the progression of several cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence and level of prostate androgen-regulated transcript 1 (PART1) expression in breast cancer tumor tissue compared to unchanged breast tissue in the same patients. METHODS: In this study, 50 breast tumor sample tissue of patients with invasive breast cancer and its normal adjacent tissue were included in the study. qRT-PCR was performed to examine the expression level of PART1. RESULTS: The study showed eight times higher PART1 expression in the tumors tissues compared to the normal tissues. The expression of PART1 LncRNA was higher in the HER2 overexpression subtype than in others. Also, its expression was inversely associated with estrogen receptor expression. CONCLUSIONS: Due to the expression rate of lncRNA PART1 in advanced stages of breast cancer, in the estrogen-negative group, and also in the HER-2 subtype, it can be used as a biomarker and targeted therapy option in breast cancer. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
