Abstract

Four cases of pancreatic injury after trauma are reported. A 12 yr old boy, operated on after a blunt trauma of the abdomen: pancreas was found transected; the distal part was implanted into the 4th portion of the duodenum; and uneventful recovery. A 25 yr old male: admitted for penetrating knife wound of the left chest; left thoracoabdominal approach; diaphragm and stomach perforated; pancreas lacerated between head and neck; the injuries were repaired by suture; and recovery. A 9 yr old girl: admitted for gun shot in the epigastrium; perforation of the stomach; 8 perforations of the jejunum and small laceration between head and body of the pancreas; resection of the jejunum; repair of stomach and pancreas by sutures; and recovery. A 20 yr old male: severe traffic accident; resuscitation unsuccessful; autopsy revealed rupture of the liver, duodenum, and spleen; pancreas was transected and major vessels ruptured. In case of transection of the pancreas the implantation of the distal part into the duodenum or a Roux Y loop is preferred. (Toole - Athens)
