Abstract

Population aging is an irreversible and increasing global trend. Many disorders occur with aging. One of the common disorders is the occurrence of dementia and Alzheimer's (AD). The robust link between the hippocampus and the vestibular system suggests a likely relationship between vestibular impairments and the onset of Alzheimer's disease. This article describes the main findings related to the role of the vestibular system in AD and stresses the importance of providing rehabilitation based on the function of the vestibular system in AD. Recent studies have shown that vestibular dysfunction is increasingly common in patients with AD, and patients with AD with vestibular impairment show more visual-spatial cognitive impairment. © 2024 Elsevier Masson SAS
