Abstract

Labor pain is one of the complex pains in women's life that is influenced by various factors. Due to its multidimensional nature of this experience, use of comprehensive tools for its accurate assessment is essentialand in improved maternity care. This study was conducted with aim to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Angle Labor Pain Questionnaire (A-LPQ) among Iranian women. Methods: This methodological study was conducted in three stages: translation, validation, and practical testing of the Persian A-LPQ. After completing the standard translation process and qualitative and quantitative assessments of face and content validity, construct validity was examined through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses on a sample of 200 pregnant women. Convergent validity was assessed via correlation with the Persian short form of the McGill Pain Questionnaire. Reliability was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: The mean total questionnaire score was 32.41 ± 5.29. Exploratory factor analysis extracted five factors explaining 71.3% of the total variance. The five-factor model demonstrated good fit in confirmatory factor analysis (RMSEA= 0.062). Reliability was confirmed with Cronbach's alpha of 0.91 for the total scale and between 0.79 and 0.86 for the subscales. Convergent validity was confirmed by a significant positive correlation with the McGill Pain Questionnaire short form (r = 0.68, p<0.001). Conclusion: The Persian version of the Angle Labor Pain Questionnaire demonstrates satisfactory validity and reliability, with its five-factor structure well-supported by the collected data. This instrument is capable of assessing the multidimensional experience of labor pain among Iranian women. © 2025, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. All rights reserved.
