Summary: Why was a brain tumor review corrected? A publication notice updates material in a prior cancer review, including a figure; it is not a new treatment trial. #ResearchIntegrity #NeuroOncology

Abstract

Correction: Mol Cancer 24, 58 (2025) Following the publication of the original article [1], the authors would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board, and readers for their careful attention to their manuscript. The authors apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue, which has now been corrected. They are truly grateful to the respected Editor for their suggestion and for giving them the opportunity to submit this correction. In this context, the incorrect Fig. 2. that is mentioned below: Incorrect Fig. 2: Epidemiology of GBM. This figure offers an overview of brain and CNS tumor distribution from 2014 to 2018, categorized by tumor behavior (benign or malignant) and histological type. The upper section presents the overall distribution of tumor behaviors, while the lower section focuses on malignant tumors, particularly gliomas. Additionally, the figure includes a pie chart comparing the five-year survival rates of GBM patients treated with RT alone versus those treated with a combination of radiation therapy (RT) and temozolomide (TMZ), highlighting the significant improvement in survival with the combination therapy ◼ has now been corrected to the Correct Fig. 2., regarding the Editor-in-Chief’s valuable suggestion, as follows. The figure’s legend has also been edited, updated, and cited to the appropriate publication that the information has been retrieved from. In this regard, the upper part of the figure, including the Line Chart of “Incidence of Brain Tumors (2014–2018)” and the two Pie Charts of “Incidence of Tumor Types per 100,000” and “Distribution of Malignant Primary Brain and Other CNS Tumors by Site and Histology” that its title has also been modified for a better clarification, have now been cited to References #43 from the manuscript. Moreover, the lower part of the figure, which includes the mentioned Pie Chart, i.e., “Distribution of 5-year survivors among patients treated with RT alone vs. RT + TMZ,” has now been cited to Reference #26 from the manuscript. We sincerely ask you to add these citations to the updated caption of Fig. 2., based on the manuscript’s References list. Corrected Fig. 2: Epidemiology of GBM. This diagram illustrates the distribution of primary brain and other CNS tumors from 2014 to 2018, categorized by incidence, tumor behavior (malignant and non-malignant), site, and histology. The data is presented as Average Annual Age-Adjusted Incidence Rates (AAAIR) per 100,000 population. The lines represent the overall incidence trends, highlighting the higher incidence of non-malignant tumors compared to malignant cases during this five-year period [43]. The pie charts located in the middle of the figure provide a detailed breakdown of tumor behavior and histological distribution, particularly for gliomas [43]. Additionally, the lower pie chart indicates the distribution of 5-year survivors among patients treated with Radiotherapy (RT) alone vs. RT + Temozolomide (TMZ), highlighting the significant improvement in survival with the combination therapy. Among patients surviving at or beyond 5 years, 83.8% were from the RT + TMZ group and 16.2% from the RT alone group, based on 5-year survival rates of 9.8% and 1.9%, respectively [26] © The Author(s) 2026.
