Abstract

Traffic accidents in Isfahan are considered one of the most serious challenges in the field of public health and urban safety, causing significant loss of life and financial losses annually. Accordingly, a set of practical and policy solutions have been proposed that can lead to a reduction in traffic accidents in Isfahan. “Improving road design in high-risk areas” such as Area 3, which has a worn-out texture and winding roads, is one of these solutions. Although this solution requires significant investment and cross-sectoral cooperation, its long-term and sustainable effects on reducing accidents are significant. “Developing emergency bases in high-accident areas of the city” is also another solution that can minimize the time to reach the scene of an accident and increase the chances of saving the lives of the injured “Gradual relocation of some trip-generating centers to the outskirts of the city”, “implementing continuous educational surveillance cameras in accident-prone areas” are other suggested solutions. Each of these solutions has its own advantages and challenges that should be considered in urban planning. For example, while educational campaigns have lower implementation costs, they require repetition and continuity to achieve the desired results. On the other hand, large-scale development projects such as road improvements, although costly, will have more long-term and more sustainable effects on traffic safety. The successful implementation of these solutions requires the cooperation and participation of all stakeholders, including the municipality, traffic police, emergency organizations and the targeted areas. Adequate budget allocation, careful planning and continuous monitoring of project implementation are other key factors in the success of these programs. By providing a practical, evidence-based framework, this report aims to provide appropriate guidance for policymakers and urban planners to reduce traffic accidents and create a safer city for all citizens. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
