Abstract

The effect of early mobilization on hemodynamic parameters of patients under mechanical ventilation has been associated with positive results and yet its effect on specific respiratory parameters is less well appreciated. This article reports the results of a study of a randomized clinical trial of intensive care unit patients receiving mechanical ventilation. The findings of this study confirmed that a 4-step protocol for early mobilization can improve PaO2, O2 saturation, PaO2/FIO2 (fraction of inspired oxygen) ratio, and pulmonary compliance. The value of interdisciplinary collaboration supporting early mobilization was confirmed. Copyright © 2022 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved.
