Abstract

Paleoparasitological findings are clear evidence indicating the presence of parasitic infections among humans and animals of the distant past. Archeological materials obtained from the excavated sites are the study samples without which the questions confronting paleoparasitologist cannot be answered. To attain reliable comprehensive results in this branch of parasitology the contribution of multidisciplinary studies should not be neglected. Although so many parasites of ancient times have been identified since the beginning of the 20th century until now, there are still many questions are remain to be answered in the future. Implementing modern molecular studies along with the routine laboratory diagnostic methods using rehydration technique followed by optical microscopy will provide us with more specific details of those retrieved parasites. Equipping with these capabilities, enables the scientists to redefine the scientific views on emerging and re-emerging parasitic infections based on paleoparasitological discoveries. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
