Abstract

Background: Assessing patterns and environmental conditions among high-risk families with cardiovascular diseases helps to recognize their health problems and prevent more advanced dysfunctions. This study aims to find the effect of a lifestyle intervention package on cardiovascular risk factors in the first-degree relatives of hospitalized patients with cardiovascular disease. Methods: To evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention, a two-arm parallel-group randomized trial will be conducted involving 300 patients. Participants will be included through a purposive and convenient sampling method from the Health Promotion and Prevention Center of Rajaei Hospital in Karaj City, Alborz Province. Patients will be divided into intervention and control groups using block randomization. Participants in the intervention group will receive a comprehensive package of interventions including educational sessions, individualized counseling, and social media–based instruction. For the control group, family members will be assessed for cardiovascular disease. Subsequently, physicians will educate them on managing these risk factors. Discussion: Knowledge achievements in this trial have the potential to essentially influence modern programmatic approaches and clinical policies that will lead to improvements in well-being, cardiovascular health, and health-related quality of life of patients with heart diseases in Iran. Trial registration number: The trial was registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT) under the registration number IRCT20240121060757N2 on October 25, 2024 (https://irct.behdasht.gov.ir/trial/78178). © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
