Abstract

There are several factors contributing to increase in CO2 emission including growth of industrial activity resulting in global warming. One of the most widely used methods of capturing CO2 is through solvent-based absorption. Solvents can be categorized as chemical, physical, or mixture. Mixtures of solvents can be divided into two groups: chemical or physical solvents only, chemical and physical solvents together. It has been discussed in this chapter that mixtures of chemical-physical solvents are capable of absorbing carbon dioxide via both chemical and physical reactions. Besides common solvents, we moreover discuss phase-change solvents as well as biphasic solvents. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
