Abstract

As an alternative to the standard no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL)/lowest observed adverse effect level (LOAEL) technique, benchmark dose (BMD) modeling has been recommended as a starting point for determining acceptable exposure limits for risk assessment. Regression analysis of the response against dose is used to estimate a BMD by identifying a response level of interest and then determining the dose that resulted in that extent of change. In addition to the BMD estimate, the BMDL (lower confidence limit) is typically determined using this method. There are also different software programs for calculating BMD, like BMDS, PROAST, Bayesian BMD, and MADr-BMD. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
