Abstract

Esthetics of everyday life focuses on objects, events, and people’s daily life activities. Attention to the everyday life esthetics in older adults is essential due to the effects aging has on an individual’s social connections as well as their psychological and physical health. The purpose of this study was to describe and explore the esthetics of everyday life according to older adults’ perspectives. In this qualitative study, the participants were recruited from the population of older adults who were referred to Urban Comprehensive Health Service Centers in Kashan, Iran. Data collection was performed using semi-structured and face-to-face interviews. Data was analyzed using the Granheim and Landman method. Three main themes emerged from the data analysis: esthetics as the key to one’s own inner peace, esthetics as family’s and significant others’ connectedness and well-being, and esthetic as maintaining one’s own well-being and independence. Our participants provided significant insights related to their life esthetics. Our findings can provide health care providers with an understanding of what older adults may need to maintain their physical, mental, and social well-being. Future research is recommended to study life esthetics in older adults. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
