Abstract

Guggul is the gum resin collected from Commiphora mukul tree. According to TPM, guggul has a hot and dry nature and is a laxative which specifically expels excess phlegm humor. It is therefore effective for diseases such as asthma, low back pain, hemorrhoid, gout, and amenorrhea. Based on an overview of the clinical evidence, there are controversial data about lipid-lowering properties of guggul. RCTs have shown guggul to be effective for hemorrhoids. Also, preclinical studies represented that guggul is effective for neuropathic pain and male infertility. © 2024 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
