Abstract

Indazole derivatives represent a versatile class of heterocyclic compounds with significant implications in medicinal and coordination chemistry. Over the past decade (2015–2025), substantial research has elucidated their structural versatility, electronic properties, and biological activities. Metal-indazole complexes have emerged as promising candidates across diverse applications, including drug discovery, catalysis, and advanced materials. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in the synthesis, structural characterization, and functional applications of these complexes, with a particular emphasis on their biomedical relevance. Notable applications include their efficacy in anticancer and antimicrobial therapies, as well as their utility in molecular imaging. Furthermore, their integration into metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and luminescent systems underscores their potential in environmental remediation, chemical sensing, and optoelectronic technologies. Despite these advances, challenges such as optimizing metal-ligand selectivity, refining synthetic methodologies, and deepening mechanistic insights persist. This review critically evaluates current trends and highlights emerging opportunities, bridging fundamental coordination chemistry with interdisciplinary applications in pharmaceutical and materials sciences. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
