Abstract

Numerous studies have shown a powerful relationship between nutrition and prevention or treatment of multiple sclerosis. In this way, dietary intake of fish is one of the considerable recommendations to reduce the risk of MS presentation. Some studies have tried to show the effect of fish oil or omega-3 FA supplements, as the most effective component of fish, on disease progression and related comorbidities in MS patients. Studies observed that only the combination of fish oil supplements with dietary intake of fish was significantly effective. The reason could be the existence of the other micronutrients such as vitamins and carotenoids in fish. At the end of the present review, we strongly recommend the weekly intake of fish for not only the prevention of MS presentation but also treatment of MS patients. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.
