Abstract

The aging process causes the body to weaken, the individual’s functioning to decline, and general health to deteriorate. Thus, it is not surprising that many minor ailments and chronic diseases are more prevalent among the older population compared to other age groups, highlighting the significance of self-care for older adults. The importance of self-care has never been more salient, especially as we live in an era where healthcare systems are often overburdened with unforeseen demands. Accordingly, this chapter explains how self-care can be applied to the management of minor ailments and chronic conditions in older individuals. Besides discussing the common health problems of seniors, practical recommendations will be provided regarding self-care improvements in this context. © 2025 The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
