Abstract

Influenza viruses cause respiratory disease in humans and other animals. To date, influenza viruses have resulted in many seasonal epidemics and pandemics. According to the world health organization (WHO), influenza epidemics lead to 3–5 million cases of severe illness annually. Due to the nature of the influenza viruses, genetic changes occur continuously in their genome that complicates the vaccine development. Antiviral drugs are also administrated for the treatment and prevention of influenza viruses. The significant burden of influenza is of great importance and requires proper management. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
