Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of intravaginal application of seminal plasma after follicle aspiration on clinical pregnancy rates after IVF-ET. Material and methods: This investigation is a single - blinded randomized clinical trialon 266 patients undergoing IVF-ET that were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly assigned to interventionin the seminal plasma group (SP) (n=133) andculture medium (placebo) as a control group (n=133) by using Permuted Balanced Block Randomization 2cc of Fresh seminal plasma from the patient's partner or culture medium (placebo) were injected in the Vaginal vault just after follicle aspiration. The main outcome measured was clinical pregnancy rate. Results: Comparing the study group to controls, no significant differences were found regarding age, AMH, number of ova retrieved, and number of cleaving embryos. Comparable mean number of embryos was transferred in both groups. 49 clinical pregnancies were achieved. The clinical pregnancy rate was 20 % and 17.3 % for the study and control groups, respectively (p=ns). Conclusion: Our data do not confirm the theory of seminal plasma having the potential to increase pregnancy rate. The data should be confirmed by larger studies and more seminal plasmaintravaginal insemination at the time of embryo transfer.
