Abstract

The development of microbial kinetics is the heart of any bioprocess. The kinetic equation generated for a certain bioprocess aids in optimizing the production process, comparing performance, and reducing experimental investigation. Mathematical models help analyse data and offer strategies for addressing challenges in bioprocesses. Understanding the kinetics of any bioprocess can be crucial for optimizing batch process performance. Ultimately, the focus is improving product yields and substrate conversions to enhance productivity. This chapter gives a practical approach to developing a kinetic equation with case studies. The basic kinetic equation to represent the substrate utilization and product formation was discussed with suitable numerical examples. The experiments designed in the side arm Erlenmeyer flask help beginners gain practical skills to develop kinetic equations for microbial cell culture. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
