Abstract

BACKGROUND: Circulating miRNAs may be useful as a marker for early detection of lung cancer and usually disrupt or suppress translation. Early detection of lung cancer is clinically important. This study measured the whole blood levels of three different miRNAs (miR-143, miR-199 and miR-210) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and evaluated their diagnostic value for NSCLC. METHODS: This study was performed on blood samples of 100 individuals including 50 NCLS patients and 50 healthy controls. RNA extraction, CDNA synthesis and Real-time RT-PCR were performed on samples. Patients’ samples were collected before performing any treatment. Informed consent was obtained as well. RESULTS: The data obtained from present study showed that in patients with NSCLC, miR-143 and miR-199 blood levels were decreased significantly, and miR-210 blood level was increased significantly in comparison to healthy control group. MiR-143 and miR-199 were 2.06 and 2.18 times less in patients than in healthy people. MiR-210 was 3.58 times higher on average in patients than in healthy group. The combination of these three miRNAs with the study of VEGF, K-RAS and BAX genes in peripheral blood in patients and healthy individuals further increased the diagnostic value. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the present study showed that the abovementioned three blood miRNA can be used as tumor biomarkers for early diagnosis of NSCLC. © 2021 EDIZIONI MINERVA MEDICA.
