Abstract

Tetracyclines are broad-spectrum and widely available antibiotics that are routinely used in animal husbandry. The possibility of the presence of residues of this antibiotic in food of animal origin is high. Therefore, this systematic study was designed to evaluate its amount and common analytical methods in eggs. With the keywords (tetracycline or chlortetracycline or doxycycline or minocycline or tigecycline or oxytetracycline) and (egg) and (residue or detection or measurement or analytical method or analysis), a search was performed in the databases. 16 manuscripts were selected according to the study inclusion criteria and their data were extracted. In all studies, the analytical method was based on liquid chromatography. Two solvents, methanol and acetonitrile, were ususally used for sample preparation. In some cases, EDTA-containing buffers were also used. The detected amount of ND up to 479 µg/kg has been reported, which indicates continuous monitoring. © 2026 The Author(s)
