Abstract

Needleless electrospinning has emerged as an option for electrospinning modification to overcome some drawbacks of needle electrospinning such as needle clogging and low production capacity/rate of nanofibers as well as achieving interbatch homogeneity. This method delivers nanofibers on a large scale, directly from a free fluid surface. In this chapter, a summary of innovative device designs of proposed approaches for needleless electrospinning systems based on the direction and configuration of the device setup (downward, upward, and sideward), as well as a detailed account of the latest applications of needleless electrospun nanofibers as membrane materials in biomedicine, environmental protection, sensors, and energy harvest and storage, is provided. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.
