Abstract

Background and aims: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of an educational-therapeutic package based on psychological flexibility on the quality of work life and general health of nurses caring for patients with COVID-19. Methods: This research was a single-blind clinical trial. Based on the clinical interview, 30 individuals were selected from a population of 120 nurses working at the Isa Bin Maryam Hospital, a COVID-19 Center in Isfahan city, during the winter of 2019. These individuals were randomly assigned to two groups: control and intervention. The study tools included Walton’s Quality of Work Life Questionnaire, the General Health Questionnaire (PHQ), and an educational-therapeutic package for psychologically safe exposure based on psychological flexibility. The data were analyzed using SPSS 24 statistical software with the univariate analysis of covariance method. Results: The average scores of quality of life and general health for both groups before the study did not show a statistically significant difference (p>0.05). After the intervention, the average quality of life scores for the experimental and control groups were 7.74 and 6.72, respectively, which did not show a statistically significant difference. However, the average general health scores for the experimental group and the control group were 7.31 and 8.38, respectively, which showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusion: The application of an educational-therapeutic package based on psychological flexibility has had a positive and significant impact on the general health components of nurses. Therefore, the authors suggest that these educational packages be considered in educational planning and nursing management policies. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
