Abstract

Depending on the disease and treatment stage, 30-50∈% of all patients with a diagnosis of cancer show depressive and anxiety symptoms and need psychosocial support. Active coping strategies, search for meaning, spirituality, good interpersonal relationship and trust in the doctors are favourable coping forms. Responding to negative emotions with empathy is especially necessary after bringing cancer diagnosis to the patient and the family. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
