Abstract

Hand sanitizer gel is a type of hand sanitizer in the form of a gel that is useful for cleaning hands from germs. Hand sanitizer contains an active ingredient of ethanol, but excessive use will cause new problems, namely dry skin to skin irritation. To reduce the risk, research was conducted on the manufacture of non-ethanolic hand sanitizers with clove leaf oil and curcuma extract as active ingredients. The purpose of the study was to analyze the formulation and effectiveness of a hand sanitizer with clove leaf oil and extract of Curcuma. The research method used was experimental research with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) 4 formulations with two repetitions. Tests carried out on hand sanitizers were physical, organoleptic test, and also antibacterial effectiveness. The results showed that the density value of >0.88 mL, namely the highest density value reached 1.0014 g/mL. The pH of the preparation is 4.5 - 8.0 and the viscosity of the preparation is in the range of 3,000 - 50,000 cps according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The effectiveness of antibacterial shows that hand sanitizer preparations can produce a decrease in the number of bacterial colonies on the hands. Thus, it can be concluded that clove leaf oil and curcuma extract are safe and effective to use as hand sanitizers. © 2023 Author(s).
