Abstract

5-Nitro-2-furoyl Chloride is a colorless crystalline derivative of nitrofurans, used as a reactant to synthesize several antibacterial agents. There are no reports on its commercial use. The 5-nitro group is responsible for the antimicrobial activity of this compound and plays a significant role in the genotoxicity of nitrofurans. It is almost impossible to conclude the toxicity of this compound, while it is only classified as a corrosive agent. More studies are also needed to investigate the 5-nitro-2-furoyl Chloride toxicology profile. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
