Abstract

Abstract: Gabapentin (GB) is commonly used as an anti-epilepsy medication. Electrochemical sensing has been shown to be a promising method for drug detection at very low concentrations. In the present study, for the first time, electrochemical detection of GB was directly conducted using a modified glassy carbon electrode based on graphene oxide and gold nanoparticles. The limit of detection and limit of quantitation of the method were found to be 0.08 and 0.24 μM, respectively, by means of the differential pulse voltammetry technique. The sensor was characterized via scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The reproducibility, selectivity, stability, and repeatability of the modified electrode were found to be acceptable. The developed modified electrode demonstrated excellent performance for the detection of GB in standard solutions as well as in serum and saliva samples. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. 2026.
