Abstract

The study summarizes individuals’ challenges with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in driving and explores interventions to improve their driving experience and quality of life. A review of 34 articles highlighted difficulties with executive function, motor coordination, and hazard detection. Simulated driving environments can help address these challenges. Proposed interventions include neuropsychological evaluations, tailored instruction, and supplementary learning materials, though their broader applicability still need to be determined. By targeting the unique challenges of individuals with ASD, it is possible to enhance their driving skills and overall independence. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
