Abstract

Keratoconjunctivitis is the most prevalent disease among eye disorder in the world. Understanding of relation between Keratoconjunctivitis and etiologic agents in community must be very important for designing better treatment. The present work documents the frequency and epidemiological features of bacterial and adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis in Feizz hospital of Isfahan.Ocular secretions were sampled with sterile swap from 196 suspected patients. Culture methods were used for bacterial identification. Adenovirus infection was investigated by ELISA and Direct Immunoflourscent test (DIFT) Methods. Of the 196 cases studied, 95 (%48.5) caused by Adenovirus, 55 (% 28.1) caused by staphylococcus aureus and 10 (% 5.1) caused by pseudomonas aueroginosa. Other 36 samples (18.7%) were negative. The most prevalence of infection was in 15-29 year group. Based on this study, Staphylococcus aureus recognized as the primary bacterial etiologic agent of keratoconjunctivitis in Isfahan hospitals. This could be mentioned for better treatment of these patients. © IDOSI Publications, 2013.
