Abstract

There are many chronic, incurable, and hard-to-treat diseases with profound personal and socio-economic impacts. Recently, regenerative medicine has raised hope for filling these unmet medical needs. Simply, regenerative medicine can be categorized as cell therapy, tissue engineering, and gene therapy. Now, we are far from the ultimate goal of regenerative medicine, which is to grow a functional whole organ in the laboratory. However, the combination of new advancements in regenerative therapies with new technologies such as artificial intelligence and 3D-bioprinting could significantly accelerate reaching this valuable objective. In addition to therapeutic applications, regenerative medicine has been applied for drug screening and discovery, personalized medicine, and disease modeling. This chapter presents a snapshot of regenerative medicine technologies and their application in future medicine. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
