Abstract

The introduction of optical coherence tomography (OCT) into clinical practice in the 1990s has allowed a significant advance in glaucomatous structural assessment. OCT can help clinicians with both the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma. It utilizes a near-infrared superluminescent diode light in a fashion similar to the way B-mode ultrasound uses sound to generate two-dimensional images. OCT continues to evolve rapidly, providing clinicians with more detailed qualitative and quantitative information of both superficial and deep structures of the eye. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
