Abstract

Sleep is one of the basic human needs. It is important to have a questionnaire that can estimate the timing of sleep correctly. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate validity and reliability of Persian version of the Monk’s sleep timing questionnaire. The Persian version of the sleep timing questionnaire with 18 questions was prepared by a rigorous backward and forward translation method and followed by sleep medicine experts’ review to evaluate the questionnaire’s validity, then with a cross-sectional sampling method 100 participants were recruited who referred to our sleep clinic in Tehran. The mean age of patients who participated in this study was 42.10 ± 14.83 years. The face validity was qualitatively confirmed by sleep medicine experts and was determined quantitatively by calculating the affectivity score, and all the items of the questionnaire had an impact score greater than 1.5. Finally, we evaluated the reliability of the questionnaire using test-retest method which was confirmed using Intraclass correlation coefficient and Pearson correlation coefficient tests. The results of the study show that the Persian version of the Sleep timing Questionnaire can be used as a reliable and valid tool to evaluate the sleep timing of Persian-speaking adults. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
