Abstract

Dear Editor, We would like to correspond about the publication “Warm Cupping of the Posterior Thorax in Combination with Standard Conventional Therapy for ARDS in COVID-19 Patients in ICU: A Case Series” [1]. According to Karimi et al. [1], all patients were released without needing a mechanical ventilator, and all patients’ symptom scores improved, which was matched by an increase in SpO2 of up to 3.16 percent. For patients with COVID-19 and ARDS, Karimi et al. [1] hypothesized that combining cupping with conventional therapy may improve outcomes. We both agree that using cupping to treat COVID-19 cases may be beneficial. According to a previous meta-analysis, warm cupping is an acceptable Asian classical medicinal technique that could help manage COVID-19 [2]. However, without the control group in the current study, it is difficult to determine whether the patient improvements were caused by the usual medical care. Additionally, without special medical care, patients may have the tendency to heal from a viral infection without complications [3]. Background immunity is a significant issue as well. Currently, mass vaccination is used, and this could affect background immunity, which is further linked to clinical recovery from infection. © Medical Association of Pharmacopuncture Institute (MAPI)
